About this Event
THE WORKSHOP
Join writer Kirsty Fox for a creative workshop series inspired by creative non-fiction and poetry by women(+) writers, exploring some of the key themes and prescient ideas emerging from new nature writing.
This 3-part course will explore non-patriarchal philosophies and ideas in nature writing through the writing of women and non-binary people past and present. Open to all genders and gender-non-conforming people wishing to attend.
We will be focused on creative non-fiction, but dip our toes into poetry, fiction, and hybrid forms as we feel. Suitable for experienced and novice writers. Be prepared to experiment!
Each session will include reading of some short extracts from inspirational writers, alongside a more extensive recommended reading list (for those who have the time). We will then undertake a series of related writing exercises to spark ideas. These writing prompts will be suitable and adaptable for different levels of experience.
Not all reading material is essential, but I hope to offer a taste of different writers' work, so that you might discover your new favourite book!
Weekly themes:
· Redefining ‘the lone enraptured male’: Landscapes and bodies in turmoil
· Community and Kinship: Matriarchy, sisterhood, and the more-than-human
· Writing as Eco-Activism: Environmental storytelling, soil punk, and hope in the gloom

A note on gendered language
This three-session writing workshop is open to everyone with an interest in women writers (and femme or non-binary writers, whether or not they identify as women). The gendered focus is to explore non-patriarchal perspectives on nature writing. As a shorthand for this, I will use Women(+) (but this is to include people who don’t identify as women, NOT to other trans women!). We endeavour to create a safe space for everyone and will not tolerate microaggressions. If you have any questions or concerns please get in touch.
