About this Event

Come celebrate with us!

Garra is hosting its annual Women With Garra Awards and Book Launch, in partnership with the Brazilian Women’s Space in New York and the Brazilian General Consulate in NY.

This event seeks to honor fierce Brazilian immigrant women who, through resilience and grit (garra), have redefined success for themselves and are laying the groundwork for our community's success in New York City.

Please join us in awarding:

Inês Ferreira, digital influencer and social entrepreneur;;

Denise Zangrillo, housing specialist at the NYC Housing Authority;

Cleusa Paula, small business owner; and

Candice Carvalho Feio, photographer and news correspondent at Globo News.

The special Community Builder Award will be presented to Ambassador Maria Nazareth Farani Azevêdo, in recognition of her contribution to the success of the Brazilian immigrant community in New York.

In addition, this year's Women With Garra graciously shared their stories with us and we memorialized them in a book, so we can remember the drive that is alive in our community and in all of us, even in moments of fear. If you donate $35 or more here, we will reserve a printed copy of the Women With Garra 3rd edition book as a thank you gift and have it ready for you at the book launch. If you donate any amount, you will receive an online copy of the book, immediately after the launch.

All donations will go to support Garra's work with Brazilian immigrant women and girls. Garra is a 501(c)(3) non profit and all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law.

This event will also feature the art exhibit "Invisible Women," a collection created by immigrant artist Angels Grau. This powerful exhibit is, in the words of the artist, “dedicated to all those strong women who stand up for themselves in every corner of the planet, to improve society and the world.” Don't miss this unique artistic expression of grit (garra).
