Women Vote! Featuring former State Senator Wendy Davis

The Women Vote Committee - Robbie Ausley, Becky Beaver, Jolynn Free, Cindy Goldrick, Corky Hilliard, Nona Niland, Bettye Nowlin, Bea Ann Smith, and Sharon Watkins - invite you to join them for Women Vote! on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Chez Zee American Bistro. Our speaker for the month of May is former State Senator, Wendy Davis.

About Our Gues Speaker:
Wendy Davis served in the Texas Senate for 6 years after beating a 16 year incumbent. Prior to that, she served for 9 years on the Fort Worth City Council.

After conducting a filibuster in the Texas Senate in 2011 to stop $5.4B in cuts to our public schools, Wendy rose to prominence by standing up again, two years later, this time for 13 hours in her now famous pink sneakers. She was filibustering a law that threatened to close almost all abortion clinics in Texas. Wendy went on to launch Deeds Not Words, a nonprofit on a mission to activate young women as advocates for gender equity because she has always believed that “talk is cheap” and that only through our concerted efforts and actions will we create the gender equal world that our daughters and granddaughters deserve. Wendy was also the Democratic nominee for the 21st Congressional district in 2020.

Now, ten years after that historic filibuster, former state senator Wendy Davis has returned to the Texas Capitol in a new role as Senior Advisor to Planned Parenthood Texas Votes, a nonpartisan policy, advocacy and political organization working to protect and promote the mission of the Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas.

Admission is free but registration is required, so we have a good headcount. Seating is limited so please register as soon as you can.

The event will begin at 6 pm. You may arrive any time after 5:30 pm to meet and greet. We'll serve light refreshments. Wine will be available for purchase. Free Valet Parking.
