About this Event
Discover the Hidden Figures of Women’s History with Dr. Kimberly Voss
Join us in welcoming Dr. Kimberly Voss, celebrated author and professor of Journalism at the University of Central Florida, to Jacksonville! As part of the 10-year anniversary celebration for Women Writing for (a) Change Jacksonville, Dr. Voss will deliver an engaging talk at the Riverside House on December 7, 2024, at 4:30 p.m.
Prepare to be inspired as Dr. Voss uncovers the fascinating, often-overlooked stories of six extraordinary women who quietly revolutionized the fight for women’s rights in America. Through her dynamic presentation based on her book, Women Politicking Politely: Advancing Feminism in the 1960s and 1970s, Dr. Voss will spotlight:
- Two female political operatives who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and
- Four groundbreaking female journalists whose efforts shaped the narrative for women’s equality.
While their names may not grace history books, their impact was profound—helping to redefine women’s roles in the workplace, the home, and society during the 1950s-1970s. Discover how their courage and determination laid the groundwork for the feminist movement and continue to inspire progress today.
This event is free and open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to explore the untold stories of these trailblazers.
