Women on the Water

Welcome to Women on the Water!

Designed for women and girls ages 12+ (but open to all), this event provides:

• Introduction to boating opportunities
• Introduction to fishing for beginners
• Introduction to kayaking
• Social opportunity for kayaking and fishing (for those with curent fishing license)

Fishing gear and kayaks will be provided.

4:00 Check-in, welcome and introductions

Introduction to boating opportunities, resources

4:15 - 5:30 Fish identification and habitat, knot tying, casting practice on land

Transition to boats

5:45 - 7:00 Kayaking

Following instruction on land, participants can take to the water in a kayak, which will be provided along with required safety equipment. Kayak instructors will teach the basics and guide participants onto the water for an evening of supervised paddling and fishing. Anyone who wishes can stay ashore and practice casting from shore.

Anglers aged 16 and older must possess a prior to attending if they wish to cast into the water (licensing will not be available at the event). Licenses can be purchased online at or at a .

Note: There is a $4 entrance fee per person to enter Sandy Point State Park.

Participants will be requied to sign a waiver. Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian present.
