About this Event
Challenge any established notions and preconceived ideas about Roman Britain and Bath by joining members of Bath Women's Fund for a potluck picnic in the Roman Baths Clore Learning Centre to learn about women who lived here and the work of the Roman Baths Foundation.
We will hear from Amanda Hart, Manager and Curator of the Roman Baths about her fascinating research focusing on the overlooked narratives of women in Bath and what this tells us about the lives of everyday women living in Aquae Sulis.
Zosia Matyjaszkiewicz, Collections Manager, will share some of the other fascinating items in the Roman Baths collection such as plaques saved from the 'Suffragette's Rest' Arboretum at Eagle House in Batheaston when it was destroyed in the 1960s.
Rebecca Gibson will tell us about the work of the Roman Baths Foundation to support scientific analysis and research on the collection, helping to discover new perspectives about life at the Roman Baths such as this research on the untold stories of Roman women's lives.
We will also have the opportunity for a tour of the Investigation Zone learning space, an atmospheric underground environment set amidst real Roman remains.
Please bring a plate or a bottle of whatever you would like to share - savoury or sweet, but you are welcome to bring your own food if you prefer not to eat from shared dishes.
Access: The Clore Learning Centre is fully accessible with a lift and accessible toilets on the first floor. The nearest parking spaces for Disabled guests are on Cheap Street (BA1 1NA). Short walk or wheel from Bath train/bus stations.
