About this Event
Annette Wickham, Curator and Head of Works on Paper at the Royal Academy of Arts (2014-2025), joins Rosie Macdonald – paper conservator at the National Portrait Gallery – Wei Yuan – professional artist and graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Paris – and Dr. Anna Dempster – Fellow at Wolfson College, Cambridge, and founder of the charity Cambridge ArtSpace – to discuss their experiences as women in the art world. The floor will then be open for questions from the audience!
This International Women’s Day, join us for an afternoon of tea, cake and engaging conversation in ArtSpace5-7's beautiful exhibition space, surrounded by our remarkable new show, Wei Yuan's ‘The Empty Space’. These deeply personal works – many of which incorporate Yuan’s exquisite handmade rice paper – span the past seventeen years of her practice, reflecting on maternal and migratory experience, as well as the restrictions of domestic life, among other rich and varied themes. Her first solo show in the UK, ‘The Empty Space’ is very much about taking up space: this is Wei Yuan in a room of her own.
Four experts, four fields. Come for career inspiration; a deep dive into works on paper; insight and advice from leading female professionals; a profound cultural experience; extraordinary art; delicious tea and cake; or purely out of curiosity! Bring your friends and family and help us celebrate this International Women’s Day, ArtSpace5-7 style!
ArtSpace5-7 is proud to be an independent female-led not-for-profit enterprise. Over half of our represented artists are women, and we are dedicated to promoting diverse forms of expression and working to make contemporary art accessible for all.
