About this Event

Join us for a talk by Linsey Young, curator of the major exhibition at Tate Britain in 2023.

The first of its kind, the exhibition presented a wide-ranging exploration of feminist art by over 100 women artists working in the UK. It shone a spotlight on how networks of women used radical ideas and rebellious methods to make an invaluable contribution to British culture. Their art helped fuel the women’s liberation movement during a period of significant social, economic and political change. Despite long careers, these artists were often left out of the artistic narratives of the time. This exhibition was the first time many of their works have been on display since the 1970s.

Linsey will talk us through the exhibition and the ideas and research that underpinned it.

About Linsey Young

Linsey Young is a curator and writer. Between 2016 - 2024 she held the position of Curator British Contemporary Art at Tate. In this role she delivered commissions with artists such as Pablo Bronstein, Rachel Whiteread and Anthea Hamilton and was lead curator of the Turner Prize in 2016, 2018 and 2024. In 2019 during a sabbatical from Tate she commissioned and curated Charlotte Prodger’s presentation at the Venice Biennale. In 2023 she curated the major exhibition and publication project Women In Revolt! Art and Activism in the UK 1970–1990 at Tate Britain. Young began a LAHP funded PhD at the RCA focused on feminist art practice in September 2024.

Accessibility

The nearest railway station is Cambridge Station and we would recommend getting a taxi from there, which should cost around £8-10.00.

The nearest bus stop is just outside the College on Huntingdon Road and a number of buses including the Citi 5 & 6 go from the Bus Station on Drummer Street to that stop.

Streets around the College are paved.

Car Parking and Arrival

Upon arrival at the College, please come to the main entrance, the Porters’ Lodge, which has vehicle access and a generous dropping-off space, located on Buckingham Road which is off Huntingdon Road. Wheelchair access is available from the dropping-off point to the Porters’ Lodge.

If you are coming by car, parking for up to 70 guests is available in our car park located on Storey’s Way. The route from the car park to the Porters’ Lodge is paved in generally smooth stone, concrete or tiling. At one point there is a slight incline to the main College building.

Alternatively, it is possible to be dropped off in front of the Porters’ Lodge, as described above.

Buckingham House Lecture Theatre

This lecture theatre has an automatic door into the building and a lift if you would prefer to sit at the front, or 4 spaces designated for wheelchair users at the back.

Do get in touch if you have any accessibility questions ahead of the event: [email protected]
