About this Event

Overview

We are delighted to invite you to Women at the Cutting Edge on Friday 17 October 2025, in Birmingham.

Hosted by Felicity Meyer, Chair of the Women in Surgery Forum, this event unites and supports women at all stages of their surgical careers. You’ll hear from women thriving in their field, participate in honest conversations and build your community of like-minded peers and mentors.

Enter the poster competition for a chance to win our prize session; submit your abstract by 26 August. Medical students, trainees and SAS equivalents are eligible to apply.

Key themes

Technology in surgery

Discover how women are leading in robotics, genomics and research, and find out how you can get involved. Join , a leading medical technology development consultancy, and gain experience exploring device innovation, particularly device design that caters to female surgeons and patients’ needs.

Interactive breakout sessions include topics such as;

  • managing menopause in the workplace;
  • building resilience;
  • careers workshop for students and foundation trainees;
  • innovation workshop: inclusive surgical devices with Team Consulting.

Please note that the breakout sessions available for online attendees will be Building Resilience with WinS Forum member Evelyn Ong and CBT psychotherapist Sharen Knight and Leadership Through Change with Immediate past President of the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Daljit Dhariwal.


Women in leadership

Hear from inspiring voices from the Emerging Leaders programme and participate in practical breakout sessions such as consultant and senior SAS surgeon careers, leadership and work-life harmony. Highlights include a fireside chat on breaking barriers and a keynote address to close.

When you book an in-person ticket, please select one breakout choice for the first session and one for the second session.

Keen to secure your place but not yet sure of your autumn rota? If your circumstances change due to the job changeover in the summer, please get in touch with the Events Team and we will be happy to convert your place to online or refund your ticket.

If you are on parental leave or working less than full-time, please contact us as discounted tickets are available.
