Join Dane County Parks and Rebecca Seibel of TreeSpirit Consulting for a two-day Women's and Gender Minorities Chainsaw Safety Training! In such a male-dominated field, it can often be hard for women and those who identify as nonbinary, transgender, or other gender minorities to feel comfortable learning about and using chainsaws. Dane County Parks is hosting these classes to create space for such folks that would benefit from this class environment and to build community in Dane County, particularly in the fields of ecological restoration, forestry, and other similar lines of work. (*This course is open to anyone who feels it is an appropriate space for them to learn in.)
This course is open to any level sawyer, from someone who has never touched a saw to someone wanting to develop their skills in tree felling, limbing, and bucking, to those wanting to improve on their safe use of a saw!
Participants in this two-day chainsaw safety training will learn to maintain and operate a chainsaw safely. Hands-on training gives participants the time to practice techniques and operate chainsaws safely, comfortably and productively. Training follows a similar curriculum to the SAWW training program with emphasis on safer operating practices for arborists, municipalities, homeowners, farmers, and homesteaders alike. There will be a classroom and in-field portion of each training day. Participants must be 18 years of age or older by the class date in order to register. Participants must attend both class days (8am-4:30pm) to achieve certification, which will qualify you to use a chainsaw on Dane County Parks properties during our workdays.
*** Meeting Location: IMPORTANT NOTE - this class has two locations! ***
-- Participants will FIRST meet at the Lussier Family Heritage Center, located at: 3101 Lake Farm Rd, Madison, WI 53711
-- The field portion will be held at W.G. Lunney Lake Farm County Park. It may be necessary to drive/carpool to the cutting location.
Registration required. For details on cost and to sign up, click the "Get Tickets" button. (You can also see the 3 other weekends this class will be offered, as well as general chainsaw classes offered for a range of experience levels.)
These trainings are part of the Women and Gender Minorities series, made possible with funding from Foundation for Dane County Parks and Madison Community Foundation.
