Would you like to know more about mange that is killing countless wombats and mange treatment, and/or would like to help treat wombats with mange?Wildcare members, landholders, community members and members of other wildlife groups are all warmly encouraged to attend.
Program:
1. What mange is and the life cycle of the mange mite
2. Mange treatment methods – direct treatment (pole and scoop), indirect, local wombat population treatment and burrow flaps
3. Mange treatment protocols: effective mange treatment, complete treatment and the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority permits which wombat mange treatment must comply with.
4. Work Health and Safety – risks associated with mange treatment and mitigation, includes safety around snakes.
5. Reporting and record keeping – including the Curb Wombat Mange portal application.
6. How to get involved - joining the Wildcare mange team
7. After lunch: installing wombat burrow flaps – an in field practical exercise.
We will visit a site nearby with wombat burrows for a demonstration installing burrow flaps and you will get some practice installing burrow flaps too.
Please wear appropriate clothing for being outdoors in long grass and uneven ground. Sturdy, enclosed footwear, long pants and long-sleeved shirt, hat are recommended.
