Following our hugely successful concert at the Ipswich Corn Exchange in Autumn 2024, we are delighted to return to present yet another exciting evening of orchestral favourites. On this occasion, we will be conducted by up-and-coming young conductor, Dexter Drown, making his first concert appearance in Ipswich.First performed by the Ballet Russe in 1911, Petrushka is one of three ground-breaking ballets composed by a young Stravinsky just before the outbreak of WWI at the request of the impresario Diaghilev. Stravinsky's 1947 re-orchestration of the original ballet music is a real tour-de-force of the orchestral repertoire.
Pictures at an Exhibition - originally composed as a piano suite in 10 movements and depicting a tour of an art exhibition - is widely considered to be one of Mussorgsky's greatest works. However, it is the stunning orchestration of the suite by Ravel nearly half a century later, in 1922, that is more widely known and loved by audiences today.
Bringing our music up to the current day, our concert includes a work by the master of film music, John Williams - his exciting Harry Potter Symphonic Suite.
This promises to be a really memorable evening of orchestral music, and we are looking forward to performing for you again.
