Paraphrasing Forrest Gump, "Blues Jams are like a box of chocolates--you never know who’s going to show up but it's going to be GOOD!!"
“It’s like hearing 7 bands for free!”
Show Set
The night starts out with the host band playing an opening show set at 7 PM. The host band will feature a rotation of special guests such as LINWOOD TAYLOR, MATT KELLEY, MIKE WESTCOTT or occasional other special guests, backed by Wolf Crescenze (bass) and Andy Hamburger (drums).
Sit-in Jam Sets
The sit-in jam portion of the evening begins at about 8:30 PM. Throughout the rest of the night, musicians who have signed up will be invited to come up 1 or 2 at a time to sit in and jam with the band.
What’s a blues jam?
The host band provides the basic equipment needed to hold the jam (bass amp, drums, PA, vocal mics, etc.). We try our best to have an extra guitar and harp amp for jammers to use, but it's not guaranteed, so players are encouraged to bring their own amps to play it safe. Once you arrive, you can decide whether you need/want to bring your own inside. However, harp players need to provide their own harp mics and cord. Drummers need to provide their own sticks.
All styles of electric blues welcome & everyone’s always invited. Musicians from all over the DMV come and play the blues for your listening and dancing pleasure! Great way to hear local blues talent, and you never know who’s going to show up—sometimes out-of-towners and touring musicians.
Even prominent national acts have stopped by to jam over the years including Guitar Shorty, Bill Kirchen, Eugene Hideaway bridges, Jimi Carpenter, Pierre Beauregard, Johnny Sansome, Johnny Vidacovich, and Grammy Nominees Tab Benoit and Steve Riley! The jams are a great way to connect with other blues-lovers and blues musicians and to meet potential bandmates and potential fans.
Friendships, bands, even marriages (no kidding!) have happened from the magic of blues jams!!
Hank Dietle’s Tavern offers beer, wine, and sodas along with a NEW MENU by Corned Beef King! Your purchases help support Hank Dietle’s.
We need your continued, wonderful support, so remember, come hungry, come thirsty, and come ready for fun. Your support of one of the area's last few great small live music venues—with live music 7 nights a week—will keep the live in LIVE MUSIC!!
