The Species at Risk Program at Shawanaga First Nation, in partnership with Magnetawan First Nation, Wiikwemikong Unceded Territory, the University of Trent, the University of Guelph, and the Ministry of Natural Resources, conducted a study on canid populations from Killbear to Killarney Provincial Parks. This project aimed to understand the pack sizes, home ranges, and genetic structure of local wolves and coyotes. Through field data and genetic analysis, the research will inform future conservation strategies, ensuring the protection of these vital species within our shared landscapes.
We welcome Shawanaga Species At Risk Biologist, Steven Kell, to talk to us about this project!
