Wolf Meets Snake: : A Performance by Clay Creatures

Wolf Meets Snake: A Ritual Performance
“There is nothing new under the sun, but there are new suns” -Octavia Butler
Under this sun in this world of story, animal and woman converge. Clay creatures. Weaving their web of personal mythology under Indra’s net. The seeds of the future were planted long ago. Wolf and snake. Their beginnings both nested in their grandmothers wombs. Ancient ones deserving of honor.
The earth keepers. The night walkers. Yet hated, feared, for the ways in which they keep order in the forests, in the fields, in the desert. Their presence creates a boundary around them. “Not here” is what they say. Their power is what the others were so afraid of. Abused, used, abandoned, removed. From skin, bones, territory. Cursed earth cried out from this separation.
Gathering up the bones, they find shelter
In the dark cool earth itself
And a place for mending, grieving, waiting
For the song to break the curse
The song to sing over all that has been broken
It is in the joining of their wildernesses together that ignites the fire
This is the singing about the dark times
Not re-living, but map-making
Myth-making.

Join us for the first mounting of our two person performance piece "Wolf Meets Snake" at Klondike Park just outside of St Louis, MO*. The piece will begin promptly at 6pm, last around 30 minutes, and be followed by a guided discussion with feminist scholar Sarah Jeffries.
*We acknowledge our presence in the city of St Louis is within the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Illini Confederacy, who have been living with and stewarding this land and its water for hundreds of years, and continue to do so.
We also acknowledge that these gestures alone are incomplete. May we stumble toward a more equitable future together.

Details:
*Cost: Attendance is free, but donations are appreciated! (Venmo @Brea-Youngblood) If you are interested in offering continued support to see this work grow, we invite you to become a monthly Patreon member of Clay Creatures! https://www.patreon.com/claycreatures
