JAZZ GUMBO RETURNS!This fall and winter WMJS's Monday night Jazz Gumbo series returns on Monday, May 19th with Kathy Lamar!
Vocalist Kathy Lamar will once again entertain us at the May 2025 gumbo. Kathy likes to say her shows are like a blind date –– because you never know what you’re going to get. She sings a diverse blend of jazz, R&B, soul, and pop hits pulled from many decades. One minute, you might hear a Sting or Bob Marley tune, and the next, an Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday song. Her powerful voice and infectious laugh keeps audiences coming back for more. Born in Grand Rapids, Kathy has entertained around the West Michigan area for many years after she returned from living and singing in Las Vegas, NV. She is known to pop in at local clubs to listen to music and it’s no surprise that she is asked to share a song with the audience.
Doors open at 6pm, Casino Club 3260 Plainfield Ave., NE, Concert 6:30-8:30pm. Tickets are available at the door.
Member price including dinner is $25., without dinner $18. Non-members with dinner $30., without dinner $23. We have a new food vendor this year. Dinner is a choice between gumbo or chicken & mashed potatoes with gravy, both options come with a salad and a roll.
The reasons we had to increase the price include the fact that the cost of food has substantially increased. Also, the number of attendees has decreased ever since the COVID pandemic. We encourage you to attend our Gumbo series to make it possible for us to continue bringing you live jazz concerts throughout the fall and winter months.
