Kevin Prater began his bluegrass journey at since age seven. He has entertained in 49 states and 24 countries. Though he has played with many legends of bluegrass in career, he is most known for his twelve years with the legendary, James King Band. During which he was part of two "Album of the Year", a "Song of the Year" and a "Recorded Event of the Year", award winning projects. He was also nominated at "Banjo Player of the Year" during a three year stint with The Bluegrass Brothers.2023 blessed The Kevin Prater Band with 88 shows throughout the USA and Canada, as well as a recording contract with Turnberry Records of California. Their new CD will release mid spring. It will be an all original CD showcasing the bands love of traditional bluegrass.
"Coal-Fired, Pure Kentucky Bluegrass" is the bands motto and first love. They also deliver classic country, bluegrass gospel, original tunes and grassed up vintage rock. It requires a group of stellar musicians to make all that happen. In addition to Kevin Prater (Belcher, KY.) on banjo, he is accompanied by Mallory Hindman (Reader, WV.) on fiddle. On guitar, Lennie Centers (Jackson, KY). On bass, Bailey Moore (Chatham, VA.) and Dalton Smith (Hinton, WV.) on mandolin. All members of the band play multiple instruments and contribute to the bands incredible vocals.
