We're so excited to welcome you to the Wisewood Community Lantern Parade this Autumn!Over the last few months, RivelinCo have hosted lantern-making workshops with community groups across Wisewood, led by artists Patrick Amber and Jo Veal. The workshops are culminating in a FREE lantern parade which will celebrate the neighbourhood's people, places, nature and hopes for the future of Wisewood!
To join the parade, bring your lantern or light-up props and costumes and walk with us - it's as simple as that! Everyone is welcome: you don't have to have taken part in any workshops to join in.
SATURDAY 29 NOVEMBER, TIMES:
4pm: gather at Wisewood School for the parade
4.30pm - 5.30pm: parade walk
5.30pm - 7.30pm: community celebration in the community garden by RIVA
The parade route is mostly flat and we'll be using pavements rather than roads: the full route will be published here from 12 November. After the parade we'll gather for a celebration event in the community garden by RIVA, which will be lit with even more giant lanterns to explore. Food and drinks will be available. Many thanks to our partners Wisewood Primary School and the Friends of Wisewood for their support to make this happen!
Please note the event will take place outdoors so please dress for the weather.
Would you like to make a lantern? Check out this video by Patrick Amber to learn how to make your own lantern out of willow:
If you would like written instructions too, please email [email protected] to request them (they're free). If you would prefer to make your lantern using different materials that's OK too, we recommend reusing and recycling where possible - it's amazing what can be made out of something that was going to be thrown away! Remember the theme of the parade is people, places, nature and hopes for the future of Wisewood so see if you can theme your lantern's design or shape...
This event is part of RivelinCo's Neighbourhood Artists project, which aims to use creative methods to ask thousands of people living in North Sheffield neighbourhoods questions about how they feel about where they live, and what they might like to change. The data will support co-design of an exciting, responsive arts programme led by RivelinCo in 2026 and beyond to fill in our Neighbourhood Survey and you could win £100 supermarket vouchers in time for Christmas... https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=_kbdWJzwHUKpslWxj4IX_HtET16jCxFAneVOR1p18YtUNU9FQ0I2N01CMTFQV1dDRDgzWENDOElBVi4u&route=shorturl
