Wire Art Masterclass by Spenser Little

Using the sky and streets as a canvas, American artist Spenser Little will guide participants in wire art creation by transforming simple wire through cutting and bending techniques to create their names.

Spenser Little is a self-taught artist from Southern California and has gained recognition for his innovative and thought-provoking sculptures. His artistic development was shaped by a distinctive combination of literary and mechanical influences.

For over 25 years, Little has been creating sculptures by bending and cutting steel and wire into figurative portraits and phrases. His work, ranging from playful figures to pointed social commentaries and elaborate masterpieces, has adorned the walls of esteemed galleries such as Thinkspace Gallery and has been installed in public spaces around the world—most recently Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Sweden.

Spenser’s sculptures invite audiences into a dialogue with the piece and, by extension, with each other. Little’s practice also includes mixed media works like kinetic lamps and the automata hugging machine. These works seamlessly integrate functionality with artistic flair, challenging the conventions of traditional sculpture.

Throughout his life, Little has championed the causes of marginalised communities, actively working to uplift those who are underserved. His previous motto, "Create Instead," has evolved into the inquiry, "What Can I Create In The Face Of Everything That's Going On In The World?" This shift reflects his continued commitment to using art as a tool for social commentary and change.

HKWALLS has collaborated with Hysan to offer the public a captivating variety of art and cultural experiences throughout the festival.

From the Bei Shan Poets Society flourishing in a taipan house with over 130 literary members, to the glamorous era of Lee Theatre hosting world-class performances and beauty pageants, our artistic spirit has evolved across generations.

Today, as Hysan Development celebrates Lee Gardens’ 100th anniversary with the ‘Art Too’ festival alongside HKWALLS, that creative spirit lives on through vibrant murals and artistic spaces. Each artwork tells a story of transformation, celebrating the community that has made Lee Gardens a cultural home for generations. As they enter their next century, we look forward to creating tomorrow’s memories in this garden of joy.

利園一百週年

一個世紀以來，利園一直以藝術和文化觸動生活、創造回憶。從一百年前「大班屋」內蓬勃發展，擁有一百三十多名成員的北山詩社，到全盛時期舉辦世界級演出和選美比賽的利舞臺戲院，得見利園的藝術精神生生不息，代代相傳。
