ABOUT NEAL FRANCIS:
Neal Francis’ revolutionary blast of soul, R&B, and off-the-rails piano jams will take center stage on Saturday Night at Wire & Wood Songwriters Festival. The singer-songwriter-pianist credits his influences as classic New Orleans artists such as Dr. John and the Meters, in addition to Sly Stone, Billy Preston, and Curtis Mayfield. Francis launched his solo career in 2019 with his debut release, Changes. His 2021 follow-up release, In Plain Sight, came to life over the course of a tumultuous year spent living in St. Peter’s UCC church in Chicago. In Plain Sight has received critical praise from KCRW (“an unapologetically joyful, electric feel”), Rolling Stone (“Neal Francis is making piano rock cool again”), SPIN (“one of the year's best releases”), and more. Both radio singles from the album— “Can’t Stop The Rain” and “Problems”—charted on AAA and Americana radio, with “Can’t Stop The Rain” going as high as #3 on the Americana charts. In November 2022, Francis released the EP Sentimental Garbage (ATO Records), which includes standout tracks recorded during the original album sessions at St. Peter’s. In November 2023, Francis released a live album entitled Francis Comes Alive.
