About this Event
Jess Phillips MP is kindly hosting a live event in Parliament along with Women in Public Affairs (WiPA) and 50:50 Parliament to mark Emmeline Pankhurst's 165th birthday. Emmeline Pankhurst (15 July 1858 – 14 June 1928) was a British political activist who organised the UK suffrage movement and helped some women win the right to vote in 1918.
Helen Pankhurst, Emmeline's great granddaughter will be joining us for this special occasion along with a cross-party panel of wonderful women MPs:
- Caroline Nokes MP
- Munira Wilson MP
- Anum Qaisar MP
Women's fight for political equality continues. It's been over 100 years since the first woman MP entered Westminster, but women are yet to achieve equal representation. There are still two times more men than women with seats in the Commons. For our democracy to be effective, it’s vital that our elected bodies are gender balanced.
Join us to be inspired by this fantastic line-up of speakers and hear about their experiences and why we need more women in the corridors of power. The panel will be chaired by Frances Scott, Founder and Director of 50:50.
The event will be held in a Committee Room in the House of Commons from 18:00-19:30. We’ll then head to a pub in Westminster for drinks and networking afterwards, kindly sponsored by Crestview Strategy.
Please note that this is an in-person event, and you must have an individual ticket to attend. Further location details will be shared nearer the time. We are also monitoring a waiting list, so please release your ticket if you are no longer able to join us.
