WIP-ing for Godot

Two actors set out to rehearse Waiting for Godot as Bill and Ted (yes, because Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are doing it on Broadway this fall). But before the first line is spoken, they spiral into a Vaudevillian rehearsal room fever dream of devising. Ego dances with insecurity. Sureness wrestles self-doubt. And friendship is put to the ultimate test in this absurdist farce about trying to make meaning—and a play—when everything feels meaningless or too weighted. The rehearsal room becomes a live-wire playground, alive with tonal whiplash: moments of tension burst into music, emotional meltdowns erupt into tightly choreographed dance, and catharsis hides inside the game play. Is it scripted? Is it improvised? Is it all just happening?

Expect elements of Godot, a potpourri of pop culture, and a sorbet of play. The themes, patterns, and style of Beckett’s Godot oddly mirror the energy of Bill and Ted—and that strange alignment is central to this collaborative process. By laying them around and on top of each other, we’re creating a fresh absurdist piece of theater through the lens of a classic clown duo that both honors and elevates Beckett’s original work.
