Winterman is your chance to complete a half ironman distance event in the middle of winter, if you aren't ready for a half we have 2 shorter distances too. We are proposing a new course this year with the desire to remove the unpleasant motorway section we are keen to carpool out to the incline carpark and start from there with a short ride back down and into the Whitemans valley at Te Marua dairy for some sweet countryside loops. The run will still be the incline walkway and the swim well we are happy for you to organise that yourselves any time within 24 hours of the event (and submit it via screenshot). Distance options:
Half: 2km swim, 90kmish bike and 20km run (to the incline station and back).
2/3rds: 1500m swim, 60kmish ride and 15km run
Quarter: 1000m swim, 42kmish ride and 10km run.
Logistics
They are a bit simpler if we are going to start from the incline carpark. We will help organise pickups as required eg, from freyberg pool at - 7:30am - but we may find people can organise group pickups in the comments.
8:20am lots of smack talk about how little training we have done and set up transition.
8:30am cycle starts at Rimutaka incline carpark.
8:40am anyone who wants to avoid cycling up the Te Marua hill can park and start from Te Marua dairy (optional)
10am til midday people will be starting the run? Set up your own little T2 or just hide in your car.
Registration and other details
This event is free for Tri Wellington members and is intended as our midwinter social gathering. After the run we suggest have some snacks and a chat at the incline carpark then around 2:30 anyone who is keen can meet at Brewtown.
You join in at your own risk and we will send updates via this event page so sign up even if you are only 'interested'.
Please choose a distance commensurate with your level of fitness
If the weather is foul on Saturday and looks better on Sunday we will change days.
