Winter Workshops: Nature Explorers

Just because it is cold outside does not mean that the natural world isn’t alive and thriving. You will want to bundle up for this one as you join Katie, our Community Program Director, exploring the woods, lakeshore, and everything in between. Don’t worry, there will also be plenty of time to warm up indoors by the fire with some hot chocolate. Each workshop is $10 each per person.
January 30th: Owl Moon
Did you know that January is one of the best months to spot owls? Join us for a guided night hike around camp as we learn to identify the calls of different owls and discuss the fascinating behaviors of these mostly nocturnal birds. You’ll also have the chance to get hands-on experience by dissecting owl pellets! It’s an unforgettable opportunity to connect with the mysteries of the night and discover the wonders of owls in their winter habitat. Bring a flashlight, warm clothing, and your curiosity!
February 27th: Tracks in the Snow
Let’s learn to track! In this hands-on program, we’ll hike through the woods, searching for animal tracks and discovering the secrets they leave behind. We’ll learn to identify different animal prints and discuss how animals move through their environments with Katie, our Community Program Director. Once we find “the perfect print”, everyone will get a chance to help prepare a cast for it! As we head inside, we’ll make casts of our own with air dry clay.
March 27th: Spring Peepin’
Welcome spring! We are celebrating with an evening hike through our bog, listening for the chorus of Spring Peepers, those tiny but loud frogs that signal the return of warmer weather. As we hike with Katie, our Community Program Director, we’ll dive into the fascinating world of indicator species—organisms that reveal the health of an ecosystem. Along the way, we’ll explore the unique adaptations of plants and animals that thrive in wetland environments. The program will also include a hands-on pollution experiment. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the critical role that healthy wetlands play in filtering water and supporting biodiversity. Come ready to discover, learn, and make a real-world connection to the health of our environment this spring!
