Winter Weather Storylines - Energy Sector planning for Extreme Weather
Join the University of Birmingham and the Met Office at The Exchange for an exciting event exploring Winter Weather Storylines and how they can be used in the energy sector to enhance decision making, promote reliability and increase resilience. In our changing climate, we invite you to test our hypothesis: better knowledge of seasonal outlooks for exteme weather can help to plan for operational challenges that happen during winter.
The Met Office and the University of Birmingham are looking for energy sector participants to take part in a session to present their Winter Weather Storylines and see how they could be used in the energy sector for forward planning.
Attendees of this event will take part in expert-facilitated roundtables, where we will present our Winter Weather Storylines and their different methods of providing forecasts. The objectives of the session will be to:
- Understand how seasonal forecast information of extreme weather influences decision-making of energy sector stakeholders, and at which point seasonal forecast information is used in decision-making
- Identify the specific weather and climate information on extreme weather sought by energy sector stakeholders, including temporal-spatial resolution and key variables of interest
- Understand how probability of extreme weather events occurring affects decision-making by energy sector stakeholders
