Learn to see the subtle beauties of the winter forests! Identify shrubs and trees based on their developing buds and other features. This knowledge is useful in conservation and plant salvage work -- and it's also fun! You'll have a whole new appreciation for our lovely native plants, and you might even find yourself using the winter characteristics as identifying marks in the summertime.
We will study around 14 species over the course of 2-3 hours. We'll walk around 2 miles, with some uphill trails, and we will stop frequently to study twigs.
We'll be using Winter In The Woods from WSU as our guide. Participants can order their own copy in advance of the walk if desired. (Optional - The guide will read to the group from the booklet)
