Mr. Varian’s, presentation will center around the beginning of the Ohio Central Railroad and working with Jerry Joe Jacobson. Stories abound will be provided on how Denny became connected with Jerry, the railroad’s start-up, hardships, successes, anecdotes with Jerry, and possibly a tale, or two, of railroad personnel trickery to keep things going. Mr. Varian’s presentation will be augmented with photos from his personal collection and those of Roger Beighley (a railfan photographer from the railroad’s inception and an Engineer for the OC a little later on).BIO
Denny is a career and lifetime railroader who started in 1983. His expertise has led him to many railroads and positions, including the Ohio Central Railroad and later the Ohio Central System. Denny had the benefit, and hardship, of being with the Ohio Central Railroad from the beginning. Starting, and working with, what little Jerry Joe Jacobson could provide the railroad, he was tasked with creating a successful team and operating the railroad. Denny spent the next 21 years with the railroad and Jerry at which time Jerry retired and sold an extremely successful railroad to the Genesee & Wyoming. Today, Denny still enjoys railroading and flying RC planes while petrifying guests who ride with him as he pilots his full-size airplane.
