About this Event
Winter sowing is a method of starting seeds over the winter months using a plastic milk jug to create a mini-greenhouse. Once the seeds are planted, you simply place the jug outside in a sunny location and let nature take its course! This method is especially effective for native wildflower seeds that require a period of cold stratification to germinate. Join us on February 8 from 2-4pm in the basement of the First Congregational Church (106 Bostwick St, Charlotte) to winter sow some seeds from Michigan native wildflowers and grasses. Participants can keep the flowers they grow to plant in their own yards, or they can donate the plants to the Charlotte Forest Garden, a two-acre food forest in development stages in Charlotte. At the beginning of the winter sowing workshop there will be a short presentation on the importance of native plants for pollinators and on the progress of the Charlotte Forest Garden.
