Free Community Event!Join us for a vibrant celebration of Indigenous culture, tradition, and community at our Winter Solstice Festival! The event kicks off with a powerful performance by Hummingbird Women’s Drum and Chumash Singing Sisters.
From 1:00-2:30, experience captivating storytelling from Chumash Elder Dennis Garcia, Kat High of the Hupa tribe, and Alan Salazar, a Fernando Tataviam and Ventureño Chumash Elder. Bring the little ones to our Kids’ Corner, where they can stay busy with playful puppets and colorful crafts while you enjoy the storytelling!
Throughout the day, engage in hands-on activities like rock painting and cordage making, guided by Julia Fireflower, a Tataviam tribal member with ties to the Chumash, where you can learn about native plants and their ceremonial significance. Grab a bite to eat from Island Smoke n Grill, Guamanian BBQ!
As the day draws to a close, join us for a public prayer circle, honoring the spirit of forgiveness, community, and gratitude. This is a celebration of culture, storytelling, and togetherness that you won’t want to miss.
