Celebrate the winter solstice and prepare for the New Year by experiencing mindfulness and nature meditation at the new Northwestern REC Community Forest! We will revisit ancient traditions and ways of sensing the natural world that modern society has forgotten. Richard Gosnell, Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide, and astronomy professor will discuss how we can reconnect with the more than human world by learning and practicing basic mindfulness and meditation techniques. When performed repeatedly, these practices will encourage a deeper connection with the outdoors; relax an overactive mind; and enhance greater sensitivity to the patterns of nature. He will also discuss how the winter solstice and the date of the New Year have influenced society from ancient times through today.
