About this Event

Join North Coast Land Conservancy for a special winter workshop as part of our Together in Nature program.

You'll make your own seaweed cyanotypes with our guest instructors: Alanna Kieffer, marine biologist, educator, seaweed farmer, and owner of Shifting Tides, and Sam Block, wood worker and owner of Block Studio!

A cyanotype is a photographic blueprint made through a chemical reaction between UV light and chemically coated paper. Cyanotypes have been a form of scientific documentation for seaweed, terrestrial plants, and natural specimens since they were invented in the 1700s and were actually some of the original form of photographic printing.

Come learn about the process and techniques to make cyanotypes using a collection of pressed seaweeds. Each student will get to make four to five prints! There is no cost for the workshop, but only 10 spots are available.
