The Lehigh Valley Rose Society will be meeting at the Bethlehem Rose Garden at 10:00 AM on January 23, 2021, to go over techniques for winter pruning and start getting the roses prepped to be transplanted in the spring. This event is intended for LVRS members to all get on the same page with pruning so we can assist other volunteers the following Saturday (January 30th) in a larger, community pruning effort.
Diane is kindly gifting sanitizing supplies for our pruning shears (in an effort to prevent spreading RRD) to our members who attend this event. Nate is planning on bringing food and warm drinks too.
We'll have bags of fertilizer on hand if anyone wants to grab some to stock up before spring.
It's a large garden and there will be only a few of us, so we'll all be able to maintain social distancing. This is a great opportunity to meet other members and ask questions about pruning such as: How do I prune a climber? How do I prune a rose I planted last year? How do I prune an established shrub rose? When should I prune? What height? I'm seeing new growth in winter, what should I do?
This is meant to be a FUN event that's not super labor-intensive!
Please bring gloves, pruning shears, and something to put clippings in (garbage bags, yard waste bags, etc.). For members that have extras (i.e. extra pruning shears), please bring those along too!
