Join Dunes-Calumet Audubon Society for our Winter Maritime Wanderers birding series at the Portage Lakefront & Riverwalk. The winter months draw maritime wanderers to the Indiana Lakeshore as a stopover before migrating further south or as the deep lake and beaches meet their needs for a wintering area. Bay and sea ducks are attracted to the open, deep waters here, and a variety of gulls and terns may rest or feed on the rocky jettys in this small harbor of Burns Waterway.
The group will meet board president, Kim Ehn, lakeside in front of the Pavilion. Total time about 2-3 hours.
This walk is free and open to the public, but registration is required as capacity is limited. Click on tickets to register through Eventbrite. If you have questions about the walk or are unable to attend, please contact us at [email protected].
Becoming a Dunes-Calumet Audubon Society member helps promote birding through education, conservation, and scientific research for the betterment of Northwest Indiana natural habitats. If you are a National Audubon member (donor), then you are considered a chapter member of the Dunes-Calumet Audubon Society, if you live in our service area (Lake and Porter Counties). Our chapter receives a small percentage of the money for your membership (donation) to National Audubon. You can also become a chapter member at the local level on the Dunes-Calumet Audubon Society website .
