Did you know that sap from the bigleaf maple tree, native to the Pacific Northwest, can be made into syrup similar to sugar maple syrup from the Eastern United States? Join Melanie Douville from the Oregon Maple Project to learn about the history, science, process, and best practices for maple sugaring in the PNW. Take a guided walk on Arboretum trails to visit bigleaf maples that have been tapped, as well as watch a tree tapping demonstration. The program will conclude with a maple syrup tasting and the option to purchase your own tapping kit for $25.00.
Class size is limited and pre-registration is required
Registration closes Sunday, February 22nd at 8:00am
Additional details will be emailed closer to the program date
About the instructor: Meghan Kearns is the current Education Director with the Oregon Maple Project. She has a background in outdoor education and Montessori and is presently immersed in the magical world of bigleaf maple sugaring.
