Join Appalachian Headwaters visiting bird ecologist (ornithologist) Emily Williams on a wintry wonderful guided birding walk Saturday January 31st 2026, 10AM-12PM.We will start inside for a short lesson on birding and species ID, and then hit the trail for a guided birding walk. Bring binoculars if you have them, some will be provided. Dress for the weather! This is a free all skill levels event!

Emily is an avian ecologist who has been studying birds for over 15 years. She is a Florida native and grew up along the Space Coast, enjoying the swamps and wildlife of Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge as her backyard. Emily is currently working on a doctoral degree in biology at Georgetown University, where her research focuses on understanding the patterns and drivers of migration in American Robins. Before coming to DC, Emily worked across the US and internationally on multiple bird research projects, including working for the National Park Service in Alaska, where she studied the behavior and migrations of birds in Denali National Park and Preserve. After her PhD, Emily hopes to continue devoting her career to the conservation of wildlife and wild places, and to connecting her communities to science and nature.
