Scott Langley Sensei:
Scott has been practicing martial arts since the age of 5, although started karate in 1985 with Kato Sadishige Sensei. After travelling to Japan with Kato Sensei in 1993, Scott started university in Staffordshire and trained on a daily basis with him.
He also competed regularly; winning, both in kata and kumite, the National Championships five times, European Championships three times, and the 1996 JKA World Championships in Moscow. Building on this success, Scott travelled once more to Japan in 1997 and started to train full time at the JKA (Asai fraction) Hombu dojo.
Under constant pressure from the instruction of Asai, Abe, Yahara, Kagawa, Isaka, Yamaguchi etc, Scott went from strength to strength and in 1998 was asked to enter the instructor’s course. Unfortunately, an injured knee prevented this, so after considerable rehabilitation, Scott, along with Yasuhisa Inada, entered the course in 2000 and became the first instructor’s course class of the newly formed Japan Karate Shotorenmei. Two intensive years later, Scott graduated from the course and became the fifth non-Japanese person ever to do so.
In 2017, Scott founded the HDKI and in the last 8 years, this community has gone from strength to strength, with 32 international affiliates. He is also the bestselling author of Karate Stupid and Karate Clever.
Gabriel Van Rel Sensei:
Gabriel Van Rel Sensei is a respected karate practitioner and the chief instructor of Dojo Van Rel Shotokan Karate in London, UK. He began training in martial arts at the age of seven, studying tae kwon do, judo, and aikido before dedicating himself to Shotokan Karate. Throughout the 1990's and 2000's, his competitive career included appearances at the North American Cup and the Gichin Funakoshi World Shotokan Karate Championships, and he became the youngest member of the five-man team that won the US National Championships.
For more than a decade, Gabriel has led one of North London’s most active dojos, teaching a community of more than three hundred students from children to adults. His approach to karate integrates close range self defense, a strong understanding of competitive kumite, and a deep, analytical study of kata, giving his students a complete and practical view of the art. He is known for his clarity of instruction, technical precision, and thoughtful focus on effective movement, all rooted in a lifelong passion for karate.

Nerja:
Nerja, a sun-kissed gem on Spain's Costa del Sol, located 45 minutes from Malaga Airport. The area blends ancient wonders, pristine beaches, and vibrant culture into an unforgettable escape. Start your adventure at the iconic Balcón de Europa, a cliffside promenade offering panoramic views of turquoise waters and rugged sierras—perfect for sunrise coffee or sunset strolls. Below lies Calahonda Beach, where golden sands invite lazy lounging or invigorating swims.
Delve into prehistory at the Nerja Caves, a sprawling underground marvel discovered in 1959, boasting 800,000-year-old stalactites, prehistoric art, and eerie chambers—Spain's fourth most-visited natural site. For nature lovers, hike the Río Chillar's verdant canyon, wading through crystal streams amid wildflowers and olive groves—a refreshing, family-friendly trek.
Beach-hop to Burriana, Nerja's largest sandy stretch, famed for pedal boats, beach volleyball, and fresh paella at chiringuitos like Ayo, where wood-fired rice steals the show. Kayak Maro's dramatic cliffs to hidden coves and waterfalls, or snorkel vibrant marine life. Wander the whitewashed old town, sampling tapas at bustling Plaza de España, then day-trip to Frigiliana's Moorish alleys for honey wine and artisan shops.
Don't miss the Aqueduct of El Águila, a towering 19th-century feat with four-tiered arches piercing the sky. Nostalgic souls should visit Verano Azul Park, home to Chanquete's boat from the beloved '80s TV series. With mild winters and endless sunshine, Nerja promises relaxation and discovery in equal measure.
Skiing in Sol y Nieve:
Nestled in Spain's Andalusian Sierra Nevada mountains, Sol y Nieve (Sun and Snow) offers a skiing paradise that blends Mediterranean warmth with alpine thrill. As Europe's southernmost resort, it boasts an extraordinary 300+ sunny days annually, allowing skiers to carve powdery slopes under blue skies—perfect for vitamin D boosts amid the chill. At 2,100–3,300 meters elevation, its snow-sure terrain spans 105 km of pistes across 118 runs, from gentle blues like La Directa for beginners to challenging blacks in Laguna de las Yeguas for experts, with a 1,200-meter vertical drop—the largest in Spain.
The season stretches from late November to early May, often featuring spring snow festivals, thanks to advanced snowmaking systems that ensure groomed perfection even in variable conditions. Pradollano village pulses with energy: ski-in/ski-out luxury at hotels like Meliá Sol y Nieve, complete with spas, heated pools, and kids' clubs for family ease. Après-ski shines with tapas bars, lively pubs, and flamenco nights, while world-class facilities—118 lifts, snowboard parks, and ice rinks—cater to all.
Just 30 minutes from Granada's Alhambra, it's an unbeatable combo: shred by day, explore Moorish history by night, all at affordable prices versus Alpine hotspots. Views stretch to the Mediterranean, making Sol y Nieve a unique, sun-drenched escape.
