Let Winter Be Your Teacher: Slow Down, Breathe Deep, and Reconnect in the Woods at McKaigWinter doesn’t ask us to hustle. Nature itself is resting. So why do we keep pushing?
So many of us spend the season indoors—glued to screens, rushing through routines, and avoiding the cold. But this guided winter forest bathing experience offers another path: one of presence, slowness, and quiet renewal.
Rooted in the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, this 2.5-hour experience invites you to unplug, slow your pace, and reconnect with your senses. It’s not a hike. It’s not a lecture. It’s a gentle, sensory-based journey through the woods designed to help you feel grounded, calm, and more at ease—no matter the season.
You’ll be guided by Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide Karen Richter, and we’ll explore simple practices that help you not only tolerate winter, but start to appreciate it. You’ll learn how to feel more at home outside—even in the cold—and leave with a fresh sense of clarity, calm, and connection.
We’ll close with warmth—either gathered around a crackling bonfire, or tucked inside McKaig’s cozy historic schoolhouse, depending on the weather. Sharing is always optional, and you're welcome to bring a blanket, thermos, or journal to support your comfort and reflection.
Registration required. Space is limited. Adults 18+. No experience necessary. Fee: $45 (Early Bird: $35 if registered by February 8th)
