Join 18th century tailor Trygvie Jensen for a two-hour workshop where he will be demonstrating and instructing you how to sew a period winter forage cap. This headgear was typically worn by soldiers in the 18th century for their daily work duties in the camps. A simple to construct wool cap, it has not lost its fashion style in over 200 years and remains perfect for cold weather wear when skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, or performing other winter tasks. Tryg will instruct participants how to make a simplified version of the cap. All materials will be provided as well as assistance in adjusting the cap’s “one size fits all” measurements as needed. You have the option of making a tassel as well. No previous sewing experience is necessary.
Trygvie Jensen is an author, poet, history writer, reenactor, and 18th century tailor. He is a leading member of the Yankee Peas Mess, an American Revolutionary War reenactment group, and La Vie La Baye, a French Fur Trade reenactment group; both are based in Wisconsin. He currently serves on the board of Heritage Hill State Historical Park.
