About this Event

Winter Event Volunteer Registration

In conjunction with the Big Mountain Commercial Association, Whitefish Mountain Resort needs help creating fun on snow events! There are several competitions over the course of the winter that require volunteers.

How this works:

Following this process allows you to register as a volunteer. Our event coordinator will reach out to you to determine if you are able to volunteer for the event (based on the number of volunteers needed for any event, your availability, ski ability, experience, etc.). To register, please provide your contact information and let us know what events you may be interested in.

Once registered, our Event Coordinator will contact you about specific dates where we need you, confirm details, and prepare you for what lies ahead. If you are not contacted, volunteer spots have been filled. See below for information about what, where, when and how you would be doing things at a typical event.

Each time you volunteer you earn a few things:

A Lift Ticket (good for 12 months after the event you volunteer for)

A lift ticket for the day of volunteering, if required.

Entry into the Prize Raffle (must be present at award ceremony to win)

Community Respect and Appreciation!!!

Whiteout, Biggie Banks and Nate Chute events - $15 lunch voucher good to WMR F&B outlets.

USSA Alpine Race Volunteers– A homemade sack lunch from our friends at FVSEF.

We ask each volunteer to have:

-Intermediate/advanced skiing or snowboarding ability (Please, no beginners)

-Backpack

-Warm clothes and layers based on the weather

-And another layer, just in case

-Snacks and Water

-Ski / Snowboard equipment

-Knowledge of the mountain is helpful

What we will give you:

-Training on what to do based on your volunteer position

-A radio, and training on how to use it

-Course worker jacket – to designate you as a course worker. This is not for warmth.

-A padded seat – standing on snow is cold after a while

-Handwarmers – if it’s chilly

-Cowbell – for hyping up competitors!

Duties / Positions:

Most volunteer duties fall into a few categories:

Course Marshal / Gate Judge – Make sure racers are going around the gates, staying on course, etc.

Timing – Writing times or marking off competitors as they finish a course

Course Work – repairing gates or ruts during the race

Crossing Guard – Controlling managed course crossing by non-racing public.

Course Building – if you have raced banked slaloms before, we may need some help digging!

Scoreboard – Writing scores on a scoreboard at the finish line.

Snowball Patrol – Help to control snowballs at the Pond Skim!
