Zaire Darden is a dynamic drummer and educator rooted in the Northeast Ohio jazz community. A native of the region, Darden studied Jazz Studies at the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he developed the technical and stylistic foundation that defines his versatile, contemporary approach to the drum set.
Darden is an active performer throughout the Akron and Cleveland music scenes, frequently appearing alongside many of the area’s leading jazz musicians. His playing blends a deep sense of groove with a modern improvisational vocabulary, making him a sought-after collaborator for small groups, creative ensembles, and genre-crossing projects.
He has been a part of several notable projects, including Christopher Coles’ Love Demon Song Cycle, live and studio recordings with regional artists such as bassist Jordan McBride, and various ensemble performances featured across Northeast Ohio’s vibrant jazz venues and festivals. His work can be heard on multiple recordings, including collaborations released on major streaming platforms.
Recognized as one of the rising voices in the Akron jazz scene, Zaire Darden continues to shape the musical landscape through his artistry, professionalism, and steady presence in both creative and educational settings.
