About this Event

Novaparke Innovation & Technology Campus will present a nature presentation in partnership with the Sam Shine Foundation this January as part of Novaparke’s “STEM Saturdays” series. On Saturday, January 18, Sam Shine Foundation Conservation Director and Bird Program Lead Matt Williams will present “Winter Birds of Floyd County” to help people learn more about some common species they may see at their feeders or around their yard, and will also cover the work of the Foundation’s brand new bird conservation program. The session will take place from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Novaparke (111 Innovation Parkway, Georgetown, IN). The event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested.

Matt Williams’ worked for The Nature Conservancy in 1998 as a seasonal field assistant, then as Preserve Manager for the Conservancy’s Texas City Prairie Preserve. He joined the Indiana Chapter of The Nature Conservancy in 2001 as the North-Central Indiana Land Steward, then served as Director of Conservation Programs. In 2024, Matt joined the Sam Shine Foundation as Conservation Director and Bird Program Lead, developing strategies related to bird conservation for species that are in decline. Matt is an avid photographer and the author of Indiana State Parks: A Centennial Celebration, Endangered and Disappearing Birds of the Midwest and Endangered and Disappearing Birds of Appalachia and the Southeast, for which he received the Thomas D. Clark award in 2024.

The Sam Shine Foundation engages in long term conservation preservation efforts to better and protect the world we inhabit, with a focus on restoring natural ecosystems through maintaining and enhancing native wildlife habitats that are associated with unique lands and waters.

Novaparke Innovation & Technology Campus is designed to create a diverse economic ecosystem where research, innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurialism collaborate; where innovative developments in the fields of advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, life science and space development are fostered through a concentrated effort.
