Join us for a Saturday family program to learn all about Winnie the Pooh's favorite food -- honey!
Join us for a very special Saturday family program that combines maps, children's literature, and real live honeybees!
The Free Library’s newest exhibition, Mapping Imagination: The Art of World-Building , is a collaboration between the Map Collection and Children’s Literature Research Collection that explores the creative and artistic choices that mapmakers use to build worlds and enhance storytelling. One very adorable item from the exhibition is a hand-drawn map of the Hundred Acre Woods, the home of Winnie the Pooh
This program will bring together a food librarian, a children's librarian, and a very special guest, Don Shump, a beekeeper from the Philadelphia Bee Company . We will visit the beehives on the Culinary Literacy Center rooftop, learn all about the inner-workings of the hives, and enjoy honeyed snacks. Then, we will be treated to a story-time all about honey.
This event is free and open to families with children ages 5 and up. Pre-registration is required. Please write to [email protected] with any questions, or to inform us of dietary restrictions. To learn more about the Culinary Literacy Center, please visit our website .

Don Shump is the owner of the Philadelphia Bee Company , which maintains apiaries throughout the city to provide residents with locally produced bee products including regional raw, unfiltered honey, wax, and pollen. He is also shares his knowledge and love of bees by educating the community about how pollinators and honey bees in particular are vital to our way of life.
