Using a Chinese martial art most popularized by Ip Man, this class will explore relentless attacks, aggressive defenses, taking ground instead of giving it up, and how to set your opponents up for their inevitable downfall.

Jen (she/they) is a metro-Detroit-based fight and intimacy director, teaching artist, martial artist, and occasional creative. Their work has recently been seen at the Detroit Public Theatre, Obsidian Theatre Festival, University of Michigan SMTD, Oakland University, Croswell Opera House, Shakespeare Royal Oak, and Livonia Shakespeare in the Park. They are a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors, and a co-founder and lead instructor at Theatrica Gladiatoria (www.fightglad.com), a year-round academy in SE Michigan for stage and film combat. Jen is also the co-coordinator of the Mitten Mayhem Stage Combat Workshop (www.mittenmayhem.com) held annually in October. They're passionate about lifelong learning, trauma-informed pedagogy, intimacy and consent work, and greater BIPOC and LGBTQ+ representation in the arts.
