Sherwood Anderson's Winesburg, Ohio, originally published in 1919, is widely considered one of the quintessential story collections of the past century-plus. Now that it is in the public domain, Maudlin House is putting out a new edition, with a Kevin Maloney introduction and Dmitry Samarov illustrations (including the cover). Dmitry is a long-time contributor to the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame, renowned as an artist as well as a writer. Although the characters in the collection belong to the fictional small town of the title, Anderson said his time in Chicago rooming houses and tenements inspired many of them. Anderson was inducted into the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame in 2012. Dmitry will be appear at Tangible Books to launch the new edition, as part of a reading and conversation with publisher Mallory Smart.
