Wine Tasting! Spotlight on 500 Years of Sancerre at Dom Joseph Mellot

You'll want to take the chance to meet the latest generation in this 500+ year story when Adrien Mellot visits the shop to pour Sancerre.
About this Event

One suspects that Pierre-Etienne Mellot wasn’t thinking of founding a winegrowing legend when he planted his first vines west of Paris on the limestone slopes of Sancerre. But since 1513, the Mellot family have been in the forefront of Sancerre’s ups and downs and (now) ups again. You won’t want to miss the chance to meet the latest generation in this 500+ year story when Adrien Mellot visits the shop to share his family’s wines.

The Mellot family helped bring Sancerre to attention of 20th Century wine lovers when Alphonse Mellot began exhibiting his wines in Paris in the 1920s. His sons, Joseph and Edmond, took over in 1949 before deciding to divide Dom Alphonse Mellot between them. Edmond got the Alphonse Mellot name and some vines. Joseph got the rest of the vines and their father’s historic winery, which he renamed Dom Joseph Mellot.

Since then the family has expanded to making high-quality wines all along the Loire. Catherine Corbeau-Mellot has led the winery since 1987 and now her son, Adrian, is beginning to take the reins. Come here the story from Adrian as he shares:

  • Joseph Mellot Sauvignon Blanc Val de Loire Sincerite 2022
  • Joseph Mellot Pouilly Fume Le Troncsec 2022
  • Joseph Mellot Sancerre Silex 2023
  • Joseph Mellot Menetou-Salon Clos Du Pressoir 2022
  • Joseph Mellot Chinon Les Morinieres Rouge 2023

You'll leave loving Sancerre as much as ever, and having explored the stonier Pouilly Fume vineyards across the Loire River, the overlooked vines of Menetou-Salon about 30 minutes east of Sancerre and the juicy, bistro, red Chinon from the middle Loire. They’re terrific wines and great values, too.

There’s no fee for this tasting of classic French Sauvignon Blancs (and a delicious Cabernet Franc, too), but please RSVP for one of the five tasting slots today. Note that the 5-5:30 session is usually the most full and the 6 and 6:30 sessions often the most intimate. We think you’ll enjoy the story and love the wines. Come see for yourself!
