About this Event
Wine Poetic is the confluence of wine, poetry and history. Entitled as a play on words that speak to the origins of these interconnected worlds, Wine Poetic is an integrative workshop series co-created by The Poetry Society of New York's Jackie Braje and GNOSES founder, writer + sommelière, Darby Wagner. The series hones in on site-specific wine (and/or other ancient fermentations) and poetry through a historical and poetic lens.
During each session, the life and work of a noteworthy poet (either living or dead) will be discussed and workshopped alongside an accompanying wine and winemaker who share the same country of origin.
While experiencing the two in tandem, we invite an opportunity for their shared pathos to not only be better understood, but more deeply felt.
(The accompanying wine will be revealed the night of the event. Drinks are not included in the ticket cost).
For our next Wine Poetic installment, PSNY & GNOSES are excited to partner with Heaven and Earth to present a Hungarian wine and a brief introduction to the life and work of poet, proletariat, and symbolist Attila Joszef.
The program will include conversational presentations and discussions around:
- The featured wine and winemaker, and the invisible threads that connect this particular wine to the poetry of the evening;
- Hungary's eminence on the global wine map led by Darby Wagner;
- A lens into the life and work of Attila Joszef led by Emi Bergquist;
- Selected readings and generative writing exercises.
Feel free to bring a journal and writing utensil, however, we will provide paper and pens for those in need!
General admission will open at 6:30pm. Please arrive promptly as we will begin the workshop no later than 7pm. Thank you!
Please note that wine is not included in the ticket fee.
