What secrets can bones reveal? Find out with guest speaker Dave Hanley! Dave will bring his diverse collection of bones to help us learn about bone fuction and identification. Skulls, scapals, femurs, pelvies, and phalanges (toes) tell tales!
Meet at the Wind Wolves Preserve Ramada (covered picnic area the near main restrooms) between 10:00 am and 12: 00 pm. Familes welcome!
This event is FREE! Reservations are NOT required; however they are a good way to receive an event reminder and any updates or cancellations. ABOUT DAVE HANLEY
Dave was born in Bakersfield to a naturalist father and virtuoso pianist mother. He grew up in the “Boonies” where the native wildlife were his friends. He has had a multifaceted career: newspaper delivery, health food sales, swimming pool construction/maintenance, firefighting (Kern County and U.S. Forest Service), military (Vietnam Army Veteran), gardening, pharmaceutical sales, exotic bird care/training, and teaching both high school (with a lab of 150 critters) and college (Biology, Physcial Science, and Science Methods). Dave also spent 25 years helping support the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History. For the last two years he has been helping connect people to our natural world with programs at the Nature Center/Peacock House in Hart Park.
ABOUT WIND WOLVES PRESERVE
Wind Wolves Preserve is a 93,000-acre nature preserve located approximately 30 miles south of Bakersfield, and is owned and operated by The Wildlands Conservancy (TWC). The preserve is open to the public daily and visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, camping, or attend a staff led program, all free of charge.
TWC is a private, non-profit organization that operates more than 25 preserves along the west coast. Our mission is "To preserve the beauty and biodiversity of the earth and to provide programs so that children may know the wonder and joy of nature."
