Enjoy the SCGSAH Wind Ensemble and Concertato String Orchestra during their fall concert! The Wind Ensemble embraces "The Dance" as it performs various forms of dance-oriented music. Selections include "Symphonic Dance No. 3" by Clifton Williams, "The Washington Post March" by John Philip Sousa, "The Solitary Dancer" by Warren Benson, and "Rikudim (Dances)" by Jan van der Roost. The Wind Ensemble will open their portion of the program with the East Coast premiere of "Pacific Tides" by local composer John Moody.Concertato will open their Fall 2024 program with Stephanie Ann Boyd's atmospheric movement "Mirror Pond" from her 2011 piece "Beyond the Gate."
Finnish composer Jean Sibelius's lush and romantic "Impromptu for Strings, Op. 5" will follow, and the remainder of the program will feature student soloists Messiah Taylor and Cici Zhu on violin, and Jackson Hollo on cello, in Corelli's jubilant "Concertato Grosso in D Major."
SCGSAH string students will be joined in a side-by-side performance with 7th- and 8th-grade string students from Southwood Academy of the Arts in Anderson, conducted by Ms. Celeste Griffith.
