One of the great things about being a Friend of West Stow is opportunity to help on workdays! It is time for the willow to be harvested down by the river and we will be doing this on Sunday January 11st. This is not overly strenuous work; we pollard the trees with saws and billhooks then bundle the wands by size ready for the staff to take away. We normally work on this until lunchtime/early afternoon. The willow is then used for maintaining the buildings and hurdles around the site.
It is usually cold and muddy work; good boots, warm clothing and a flask are the essentials. Some tools are provided but if you have loppers or a pruning saw please do bring it along.
We will meet at the gate to the village.
