Come to Mere Brow and learn how to make a beautiful frame basket from locally grown materials. We will be using hazel willow bulrush and ivy. The contrasting materials look stunning and the ivy is preserved in vegetable glycerin so the little leaves will stay on and will retain their colour (if kept out of sunlight) ?
We will have a short (optional) walk to see the materials growing on the farm then we will immerse ourselves in creating together!
You will gain an appreciation of what it takes to practice the ancient craft of basket weaving and make something beautiful and functional to take home at the end of the day.
The materials we will be using can be hard on the hands and so a certain level of dexterity is required. The practice also requires perseverance and mental focus so come prepared to work hard and you will be so proud of what you can achieve! As well as learning a new skill you might also learn something about yourself ☺️
The day starts at 9:15 (or 9:30 without the walk) and runs till 4:30.
A simple vegetarian lunch and refreshments will be available.
The suggested cost of the workshop is £55. I don’t want to exclude anybody on the basis of cost so please get in touch if you would like to come but would struggle to pay.
